Wauquiez-built boats generally have one of the best reputations for build quality among the industry's professional service providers such as surveyors and shipwrights. This Ted Hood design has a swing down centerboard keel that provides over 10 feet of draft for up-wind sailing and swings back up to provide for just over 4 feet of draft for coastal cruising. Bulkheads are well glassed and not just tabbed. Deck hardware is substantial. Mast is keel-stepped. Teak decks are thick and the wide flat deck surfaces provide for safe on deck working spaces. Built by Henri Wauquiez in France the Hood 38 is a very well respected offshore or coastal cruising yacht.

Comentario del broker
There are many 80s era boats on the market today. We've all had the opportunity to consider how different manufacturers built their boats by observing how well they age. The Ted Hood designed Wauquiez 38 is undoubtedly among the very best in this category. The gel-coat work on these boats was exceptional, the teak joinery below simply elegant, even the interior cabin overhead is gel-coat. Teak decks are thick and deck hardware is robust. The build quality is evident everywhere you look including when opening access hatches and cabinet access doors. I own an American production sailboat of similar vintage and size and have to honestly say that the quality difference between this Hood 38 and the American production boat is remarkable. It is worth mentioning that the V-berth on this model is one of the largest of any other 80s era boat plus both cabins have en-suite heads. This vessel is well capable of taking you around the world, as many have done in Wauquiez 38s. Or with it's PHRF rating of 129 you could do well in class races close to home.
