Historic move for Boatshed.com
Boatshed.com the innovative yacht brokers have opened yet another boat sales office! This time at the historic Camper and Nicholson's site in Gosport, England, now renamed "Endeavour Quay".
"Endeavour Quay" will be the home of the “Boatshed Portsmouth” and “Boatshed Performance” brands.
The site was first leased by Francis Amos in 1792. In 1809 William Camper was apprenticed to Amos and in 1821, Commerce, a 12 ton wooden smack was the first boat launched. In 1842 Ben Nicholson joined Camper as an apprentice and the company began to prosper. From the start, the owners who commissioned yachts from the yard were well to do gentlemen who were members of the newly formed Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes. The yard continued to flourish and the yachts launched included the famous J class Shamrock IV in 1914, the first C&N yacht to challenge for the Americas Cup. Other Americas Cup challengers included Shamrock V and two Endeavours.
The site is now the only site in central southern England that is able to handle fully rigged yachts up to 40metres LOA with a draft of 5m at all states of the tide.
Neil Chapman, Founder of Boatshed, commented – ‘We are thrilled to be involved in boat sales at this prestigious yard. It will be a special privilege for us all to be able to bring our clients here.’
